Balaam raised his eyes and he saw Israel camped tribe by tribe. The Spirit of God came upon him[a] and he took up his oracle:

“The oracle of Balaam, the son of Beor,
    the oracle of one whose eye is opened.[b]
The oracle of one who hears the words of God,
    who sees a vision of the Almighty;
    who falls down, with eyes wide open.
